To Whom It May Concern:

I am currently in grade 10 at Forestburg high school and learning the basics of science, mathematics, social and English. I am looking into getting and education in farm technology and to pursue in basketball. Some of my specific strengths would be working on the farm like running the tractor on hands on labour and I excel in my math courses and really enjoy it. Also really like basketball, and do really well in shot put in the track and field competitions. One other thing that my summer is filled with is showing cattle and hanging with friends. These skills were taught to me by coaches, cousins, siblings, and of course my parents. For me I am one of those people that need to physically do it to succeed at excelling in the things I do.
I am a very complex individual with sports, farming, and academic. In school I achieve high seventies to low nineties. I think I am qualified to graduate because I’ve tried hard to succeed with them marks and do well though out school. I have learn many things that I did enjoy and only a few that will apply to me in the future, but I really enjoy math and am good at it. I have finished multiple safety courses including WHMIS, workshop safety and farm safety out of Stettler.
The place where I am “shaped,” and spend most of my time would be at school where I have mentors there and learn new things I courses I take. Also the show road where I learned everything there is know about cattle. Also learned lots of things at a basketball camp I attended in jasper where I learned to be a more skilled player.
I would say CTSS or the shop option for I plan on being a carpenter or a cabinet maker. I really enjoyed building the projects we did i found it really interesting and really influenced me for the future. I would really like to be accepted into your collage for I think it could really help me have a successful future with my cabinet making career.
In my future i plan on getting a cabinet making certificate and then maybe starting a business of my own. On the side I have had thought of running my family farm and running our herd of purebred red Angus cattle. I am always keeping my options open for a good career could come up any time and any day.
Sincerely,
Tyler Dietrich

Job shadow day

As my occupation I went to Garth Ranciers and learned very few of the tasks that beef producers need to know. My day started by waking up at 6:30 a.m. and set out to Killiam where Rancier Farms is located and then was there by 8 to begin work, my day ended at 5:00p.m.
Garth the “boss,” I worked for was very helpful with the things that we did and was there if I needed a hand with something he set me to work on. I think for sure I would like to work with him because we have a lot of the same similarities and enjoy the same stuff. The work environment isn’t much different then what I’m used to but it is nice to get out and see some ideas that other farmers have and how they run things around their place to help improve your farm. My schedule was a fun filled afternoon with taking pictures of cattle to help market bulls and sale females, and then we went out to the cattle runs where he was having troubles with the bulls breaking out so I rolled up 700 yards of barbed wire and strung out high tensile wire to put electric to stop the bulls from bothering it. We drove the quad used fencing pliers and electrical work with the fencer, also a tractor to feed cows and a camera for the top quality for pictures. You need to have an eye for cattle so that you know what angle to take the picture. Also need to know how to properly roll wire so it doesn’t blow apart and make a huge mess. The customers don’t com everyday just on certain days to look at bull prospects for next spring or your cow herd because they are interested in purchasing some. All the purebred Simmental breeds from across North America, Garth has been very successful and expanded down into the States with his quality breeding stock.
Yes I really enjoyed my day and got a really good experience with working at Garth’s. I would consider taking up farming for its fun and enjoyable now that prices are strong again. It was very worthwhile for me because I helped him get stuff done that he needed and liked doing it.
